Small Scabious

A particularly perfect Small Scabious flower, spotted dancing in the breeze at Barnack Hils and Holes NNR while searching in vain for some Autumn Gentian. I recorded small numbers in 2018 and 2020, but despite searching lots of potentially suitable habitat, was unable to find it today. It may well still be hanging on, as much of the reserve is 'out-of-bounds' to protect the rare species, though I did step over the boundaries once or twice!


A quiet weekend ahead as Alex and Charley have gone off to a cottage in Norfolk with sixteen friends, including Ben, Sarah, Chris and Lizzy. The first time for a while that the whole of their friendship group has been able to get to the annual August Bank Holiday shindig.
