Finally, the rain stopped!

We were woken up around 5:30 this morning by rain drumming on our roof, really heavy rain. It continued all morning. Fortunately we were fine but in other parts of Sweden roads were closed, small roads washed away, and trains cancelled. Our neighbour's drive was partially washed away but he has a big digger (used for clearing the snow in winter) and piles of sand and gravel so 10 minutes of roaring around repaired the damage.
I spent most of the day doing a big sort out of two boxes stored under my work table. Did I really need 15 years of bank statements, or tax forms from 2010? No, is the only answer. A small pile of salary slips was a reminder of the time I was working plus the time when every month an envelope arrived listing what I'd been paid, what deductions were made etc. How quaint! My final few years of work that had stopped and we logged into an online system to get all that info. Do I need 5 headsets for video conferencing, 3 with rotting sponge rubber around the earpieces! (No!)
The larger box was no longer needed. the smaller one contained most of what I kept. That does feel virtuous!
Then the rain stopped and we went out for a walk. We heard the strange screams of cranes before we saw them. They have a very raucous cry, like a high pitched crow caw, very distinctive. I suspect it's useful when they are migrating, for keeping contact as they fly, perhaps explaining to the spread out group that they have found a good thermal to lift them heavenwards again...   I first heard, and then saw, a flock flying overhead yesterday headed south. Perhaps the two on our lake had decided to take a rest? Anyway, as we got nearer they decided to fly to the other side of the lake and off they went, giving Jan a good blip!
As we turned homewards the sun came out properly and soon our jackets were tied around our waists - very hard to dress for these changeable days of late summer.
