Jean Lurçat

Took my daughter and her husband to visit the Tours Saint Laurent, which tower over the town of Saint Céré here in south-west France. It was the home and workshop for many years of the renowned French artist, Jean Lurçat, best known for his tapestries of the coq arlequin. I had been before, researching my book, The Night Gate, so stayed outside with Daftie while the others did the tour. Captured this shot of one of the towers, from which the maquis maintained radio contact with the British as the nazis sent tanks north to counter the Normandy invasion.
