The Strangely Familiar

After we got off the plane
and whizzed through Customs
(they have unusual ones
in some countries)
we took a cab
to the nearest bus stop.

It's always interesting
to get onto the street
and observe
the people of other lands
going about their daily business
in the day's white heat.

Let's see how they conduct themselves.

Look! There's someone pushing a little
tot in a common or garden pushchair.
And another, on her phone,
guarding her shopping bag
with writing on it. Lidl.

The world's a small place.
We feel very at home here.
This is going well.
Must go. The bus
is coming. We'll
soon be at the hotel.
