Bayeux Cathedral.

We walked into Bayeux after breakfast, about a 20 minute stroll.
The first thing we went to see was the magnificent Bayeux Tapestry.
There were audio commentaries helpfully available. (I opted for the one in French). Each part of the tapestry had been numbered so you moved along from 1 to 53, each section describing a particular scene telling the story of how the history unfolded, and William Duke of Normandy became King of England in 1066.
It is just an incredible piece of work with minute details.
From there we went to see the beautiful cathedral.
It was dedicated on July 14th 1077 by William himself.
( That date in July also is shared by the storming of the Bastille in 1789, and our wedding anniversary date in 1973!).
The nave just soars skywards once inside, with its beautifully decorated Norman arches, full of light.
We must have spent ages in there as there was a lot to see, and helpfully read.
It was almost 2.30pm before we looked around for a place to have some lunch.
There is a wedding in the hotel grounds this afternoon. It is such a lovely setting and the weather has stayed fine and warm, but cloudy.
We are still quite full from lunch and have bought a sandwich each for tea, as the restaurant here is closed this evening due to the wedding,
Tomorrow we are going to the place where my dad landed on D-Day in June 1944.
