247/365 The Duomo

The huge cathedral in Siena is a tourist magnet. It’s proper name is Santa Maria Assunta and the Lonely Planet guide to Tuscany says “Feeling gobsmacked here is standard “.

We visited Siena yesterday and sat and had lunch in the Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio horse race is run.

After a wander round and the obligatory gelato we went into the cathedral and yes we were bowled over by it. Absolutely stunning.

A couple of extras of the cathedral exterior and the Piazza, taken from our lunch table.
