Ornate Entrance....

We visited the town of Leek today. A market town on the edge of The Peak District about 10 miles from where we live.

I wanted to see the Leek Photographic Club's exhibition at the Nicholson Institute  We also wanted a wander around as it's a place we usually drive through en route to the Peak

This is the entrance Greystones, a house built in the 17th century. It has been owned by Joshua Nicholson a local silk mill owner and then his son Arthur. It was saved from demolition by Thomas Wardle and William Morris who were members of the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings.

William Morris, founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement, lived in Leek between 1875 and 1877.
