Sound Mirror

Several of these were constructed along this part of the south coast during WWI. They were used as early warning devices to listen for distant approaching German aircraft. The photo doesn’t give a great idea of the size of it, which is about ten metres high I guess.
I couldn’t hear anything!
This was encountered between Dover and Folkestone on my bike trip.
