home and about

Today brother P drove us on a big planned tour that made it almost impossible to choose a blip. We started at Gillette's Castle, which I've always enjoyed, on a high hill overlooking the Ct river. I could have spent all day there- lots of photos. From there we crossed the river on a small, historic ferry that you can see from the castle. we drove on scenic routes and through picturesque Essex, then to a favorite seafood restaurant for lunch. Then we drove to Hammonasset Beach State Park and stopped at Meig's Point to walk a trail along the shore and climb on, and between large rocks on the shore. We also drove around the salt marshes that are being restored and enjoyed all the wading birds that have returned to the area. This photo is from the last stop, a boardwalk near the mouth of the ct river, where Long Island Sound seawater comes upriver at high tide. These boys were enjoying the warm day, jumping from the observation tower into the water.
