Anniversary of the Battle

I have blipped various aspects of the Battle of Pinkie  Cleugh a few times in the past, as it’s where the battle took place and our estate is built on, or beside the battlefield (depends who you talk to). Anyway, you are getting a blip of the memorial stone as today is the anniversary of when the battle took place in 1547. Every year on this day wreaths are laid to commemorate the battle.

It was the last pitched battle between Scotland and England, and was part of the conflict known as the Rough Wooing, and is considered to have been the first modern battle in the British Isles. It was a catastrophic defeat for Scotland, where it became known as "Black Saturday".

In total, the losses were: English up to 500, Scottish, many thousands but less than the 15,000 claimed by some sources.

When I walk round our estate, it’s weird to think that such carnage took places all these years ago.

I hood you are having a good Sunday.
