Wanderings & Witterings

Rollox

I spent most of Saturday at a church conference (and very interesting it was too) in St Rollox Parish Church in the Sighthill area of Glasgow.

This new church is just part of a major redevelopment of an area of Glasgow known for its urban deprivation and consequential social problems. Sighthill is also home to a large number of asylum seekers and refugees, a real multi-lingual and multicultural variety of people, and that is reflected in the artwork commissioned to adorn the exterior of the church.

'Assembly' consists of a pattern of 33 variations of the Christian cross in use across various traditions - the number 33 denoting the age of Jesus when he was crucified. It certainly is a striking work of art.
