Puff, The Magic Dragon

Today I made a visit to the Royal Deeside Railway. They have a couple of diesel locomotives but today they were running the steam engine. I don't think they run the steam engine every weekend.

The sequence of photos here shows: 1) Last minute polishing of the engine; 2) All aboard (note the gentleman in period costume); 3) Puff, everything disappears in a cloud of steam; 4) The train departs emerging from the steam

There were three or four people while I was there dressed in what I would describe as 1940s costume. The women were more successful as the fashion is more noticeably lost in times past.

The Royal Deeside Railway runs on the old Deeside Railway which would have taken the Royal Family to Balmoral. They have currently restored roughly a mile of track and are hoping to extend it further.

A year ago they acquired a a station building that used to stand at Oldmeldrum, it arrived in "flat pack" form as shown in my Blip almost exactly a year ago. Externally the building is now more or less looking as good as new, though there is still quite a lost of work to be done, externally it looks good though. A forthcoming Blip.
