CannyScot's Day

Dunbar Harbour

A lovely warm day

We travelled south to the Dunbar area of East Lothian for a five day caravan holiday. The caravan is beautiful and the Park is full of interesting things to do.

We went for a walk around Dunbar Harbour and were surprised to discover that, in addition to the main Harbour, there are another four inner harbours.

The main Harbour is dominated by this cliff and the stone tower. There is still a few fishing boats but Dunbar used to be a busy fishing Port.

If you can see this on a large screen you might be able to see beyond the entrance channel and see Berwick Law, a pyramid shaped hill. Not far away is the Bass Rock, which is home to over 150,000 gannets in peak season, making it the world's largest colony of Northern gannets. The gannets spend most of the year on the Bass, arriving in late February and departing at the end of October when they set out on their long journey down to the west coast of Africa.
