Perthshire Open Studios Day 3

The final day of our visit to Artist Studios in Perthshire, and the final day of the event. The weather is bright and sunny. The countryside is glorious and showing signs of autumn. Falling leaves and autumn colours.

We visit Kirkside Studios near Abernyte to see the work of Morag Gray and Gwynneth Masson. Both artists work with upcycled materials from a time before ‘Upcycling’ became a buzzword and features on many tv programmes.

Today’s Blipfoto was taken in their studio. The hat is formed from upcycled materials. The studio was illuminated with sunshine. Of course, the head in the top right hand corner had no hat. It had been sold.

Pat and I had a long conversation with Gwynneth discussing many aspects of our lives. It is a conversation I should have recorded and I think we will get together to continue our discussions.

Gwynneth knew where we lived and the subject of Upcycling redundant churches was discussed.

The Hare in the first extra is made of Willow by Rachel of Willow Designs in Abernethy. Rachel is very accomplished in her craft, making willow baskets, bird feeders and sculptures. She talked enthusiastically with a display of tools and techniques laid out.

We bought one of her baskets which is now holding some of Pat’s papier-mâché equipment.

The second extra is of a section of Liz Dulley’s Japanese inspired garden as we were chatting on her studio balcony. Liz’s work is inspired by various aspects of Japanese life and arts.
