I never take the car into town. Finding, and paying, for parking is such a pain. I normally take the m'bike but today it was that heavy, drenching, drizzle so I caught the bus.
Had a little job to do in town at a Jewellers, which is almost next to the Beatrix Potter 'Tailor of Gloucester' shop. It's tiny and it is attached to the arch that is shown in the book. The shop is an EXTRA today and you can see a portion of the arch on the right of the photo. The arch leads into the Cathedral area.
I walked from the bus stop across Kings Square to Northgate St. The four streets leading to 'The Cross' are Northgate, Southgate, Eastgate and Westgate as these are the four gates when it was a walled city built by the Roman invaders. Huh, what did they ever do for us eh!
This took me into St Johns Lane and through an alleyway (Via Sacra), and onto the Cathedral square. Off to the left is College Court where the jewellers shop is located. Despite the rain it was a nice little walk and an opportunity for a couple of photos.
I particularly liked the cube with Henry VIII's quotation about why the Cathedral was not destroyed during the reformation.
