Bringing in the Pumpkin

Our family always makes a celebration out of harvesting the first pumpkin from the patch out behind the shed. First we tie a colorful ribbon around the stem, then carefully cut it with a special knife kept just for this purpose. The oldest child holds it aloft as we proceed in a line towards the house singing all together:

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the pumpkin.

Bringing in the pumpkin, bringing in the pumpkin,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the pumpkin;
Bringing in the pumpkin, bringing in the pumpkin,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the pumpkin.

Ok just kidding. My wife brings them back from the store. But it still feels special.
