My Hometown

Our home address is Delta, BC. However, Delta is a very large municipality south of Vancouver. It is made up of three distinct communities, North Delta, the largest, Tsawwassen the southernmost, attached to Point Roberts, and Ladner, the oldest, and administrative centre of Delta.

Ladner likes to think of itself as a village while its population is about 25 000. The original town centre maintains, and clings to its village feel and look.

This mural, in the distinct style of a well known Tsawwassen artist, graces the side of a drab electrical service building at the entrance to the centre of the village. It shows the history, livelihood and setting of Ladner from left to right.

Extra 1. The history of Ladner as indigenous territory and as a port. The channel eventually silted in.
Extra 2. Ladner today as a bedroom community and as a farming and fishing community.
Extra 3. Ladner looking north to the Vancouver skyline and the mountains to the north. People who have cruised to or from Vancouver will recognize the ‘sails’ of Canada Place.

A big thank you to those who responded to yesterday’s blip with a Dear Terry comments. Shoutout to Brianblip for getting the ball rolling. It is an honour to be part of such a thoughtful and compassionate group.
