Bike in a tree

There’s a bike high up in that tree, minus its wheels. It looks as though it has been there for some time but until now we never noticed it, in spite of often walking that way. In fact I had to lighten the photo (extra) before I could see it.
 
We are left wondering whose bike it is, who put it there, and WHY?
