Profusion of cotton grass

An amazing sight in a moorland field on the lane to Rowsley from the Chesterfiled direction. From a distance it looked like snow in June! Cotton grass is often prolific, but I have never seen such an overwhelming display. Quite unforgettable.

Apparently the field had reverted to heather moorland, but the heather was cleared not long ago, and the cotton grass has taken over. Even in other areas of moorland it seems more noticeable than usual - the strange weather of the last 18 months must have really suited it.
