Biking about

Today is our "free day" , so Martin and and I hired a couple of bikes to explore the nearest villages to Bonassola. There is an easy cycle way/footpath along an old coastal railway which we used to go east from Bonassola the few km to Levanto, and then west from Bonassola to Framura.
Levanto still has a number of medieval buildings including a loggia which was used for monitoring goods in and out of the port, a castle and a couple of towers. It also has the very striking church of Sant'Andrea first begun in 1222 but with various additions. This striped facade is made from local white  Carrara marble and the very dark serpentine rock. Inside, the pattern is repeated on the columns. We were fortunate to visit just as a musician was rehearsing for an organ recital next weekend. It was a beautiful sound.
We returned to the hotel about 4pm just before heavy rain set in. The forecast isn't good for tomorrow so we're not sure where we'll be able to walk.
