Riding the Rapids

Celebrated my friends birthday today with a trip to Lough Ine, this stunningly beautiful, deep water lough is surrounded by woodland. We explored by kayak and had strawberries and cream on an island we pulled up on to in the middle of the lough, here we watched seals, gulls and a heron. The outlet to the sea is a narrow channel of rapids at the point where the tide is the same height as the lough the passageway through is calm for a brief time but then the sea water pours in from the other direction, I love to see that! We sat and watched for a while as some people were riding these rapids and I was tempted as it looked exhilarating and the journey beyond and out to sea looked quite stunning but I think a helmet would be sensible!
