With mountains like these

Croatian Wild mountain thyme

A very early start, we were greeted by an urban fox as we waited for our taxi. Spectacular clouds across Europe, including an enormous mushroom formation over approx Milan. We arrived in Zadar with no problems, entertained by the drug dog hopping over suitcases on the carousel and a cup of tea. It seemed the travel gods were against us for a while. Car hire messing… insurance, deposits, credit card limits, that sort of thing. Trying to resolve it on line and with phone calls was convoluted and then even more tricky as the mother of all thunderstorms hit. All potentially a bit stressful, but by the time it was resolved we realised we had been saved from sitting in thunderous rain on treacherous roads in a hire car. So we set off in sunshine up through karst landscape and herb scented gravel, North across flood plains and deep valleys. A mediaeval castle stared alarmingly at the 50’s flats on the other riverside. Finally we arrived at Plitvice. We are very happy in our b and b, a takeout meatfest from down the road and our jovial host Tommy providing the entertainment. Walking and lakes tomorrow. Beautiful Croatia!
