Tay Bridge

This is the south end of the Tay Railway Bridge, seen from Wormit on the Fife side of the river. This clearly shows the remains of the piers of the original railway bridge which fell down in 1879. I have been haunted by the sight of these remains for as long as I can remember. The disaster happened (as the poet said) "....on the last Sabbath day of 1879, which will be remember'd for a very long time."
