Lathyrus Odoratus

Leptoglossus occidentalis

A new insect for me - Leptoglossus occidentalis, the Western Conifer Seed Bug. Native to North America it was first recorded in Europe in 1999 and in the south of England in 2007. I don't think I've ever seen one before. Its quite a large bug with a superb combination of burnt sienna, brown umber, ochre and grey colouring in a pattern that wouldn't be amiss on a Turkmenistan rug. I think it might make a good subject for a new lino print (not that I can print anything until we move house and I get my studio set up).
