Mysterious construction!

This is just a few minutes walk from home, I had noticed a few days back that foundations had been dug in the middle of a field, which was previously used for grazing sheep and cutting silage.  New houses were built on the other side of the road to my back on land previously agricultural.  So why would you build a barn in the middle of a field away from farm activity?
