Top of the tower

It was the church craft fair today and one of the activities was a tour of the bell tower which I took. This is Fergus, the captain of the bell tower! The circular staircase up to the bell ringing room was very steep and tricky! We stopped there to learn about the bells of which there are 10. We then went up to the clock room which also housed the carillon which is no longer in use and from there up to the top where the bells are. Three bells were down and the rest were face up and there was very little space to move .

On each side of the tower apart from one there were opening vents to allow the sound of the bells to call the people to service! One side as indicated by fergus had been blocked up to preserve the integrity of the tower which had a crack in it!

We then went back down to the ringing room and could try our hand at the art of campanology in a safe and limited way!

Am now in my new house sit with a cat called Harry! Picture later!
