Castlerigg and Blencathra

The day began and ended with stone circles.

My brother, his partner and her brother, over from Australia, arrived yesterday evening after dropping off middle daughter off at Leeds Uni for the start of her second year. We ate at the local and Tim stayed there while my brother and partner stayed at mine. I’d made up my bed for them and got my camping mat out downstairs

The plan was to give Tim a taste of the Lake District so, in the morning we headed off to Keswick via Castlerigg (main blip with brother and partner). Keswick was heaving. We found the last remaining parking space down by the Theatre / lake and went into the cafe for coffee and something to eat as soon as we got there. Just as well as it soon filled up and there was quite a queue by the time we left. With both Tim and my brother unable to do too much walking we went for a wander with the masses down by the lake to Friars Crag viewpoint.

Then we headed back for an cuppa and then S and Tim took off for the next bit of their trip to Glasgow where their grandad was from and M and I did our own little local historical tour. We started with the local Roman Milestone and then went to Shap Abbey and on to Helton for a walk to the Cockpit, our last stone circle of the day, which was nicely timed for our very tasty evening meal at the George and Dragon.
