Vieille Montagne

From Kelmis there is a walk up the Vaalserberg to the northernmost tip of the former Neutral Moresnet (1816-1920), a pie-shaped area with a circumference of 11.4 km, where a Quadrilateral Point formed by the United Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Prussia and the Kingdom of France used to be for several decades.
The walk can of course also start from that point, but nowadays the Three-country point is a busy point that everyone wants to visit at least once. At least, if you love tourist spots.

The route is well signposted if you pay close attention. Not if you get into a conversation with another hiker, as we experienced. After the paths of the walker and us had parted, we made our way through narrow paths overgrown with greenery in the direction of the Baudouin Tower, eventually arriving at the asphalt road that winds upwards. The road we know well from our cycling trips.

The way down was a lot easier. More clearly. Almost straight ahead.
The walk around Neutral-Moresnet is part of our curiosity about the neutral state. I think we will always find it an intriguing story.
