Blue Plaque

On the edge of the moors above Todmorden was Stansfield View Hospital. Built in the late 1870s as the Todmorden Union Workhouse (see extra). In 1948 it became a hospital for the mentally handicapped. The hospital was demolished in 1996 and housing was built on the site (see extra).
My Mum was the Head Cook and my Dad a Stoker (for the big Lancashire Boiler) and General Handyman.  We lived at The Lodge, just inside the hospital grounds. We moved there c.1950 and I lived there until 1964 when I married Mrs MD.
Nice they have recently installed a Blue Plaque to mark the site.
