Great Skua

A very windy day today! In the morning we headed down to St Ninian's Isle. We drank flasks of coffee while gazing at the view and then ventured across the tombolo to the isle. On our way across we spotted a Great Skua, a bird I have never seen before so I was pretty excited by that. It was so windy that the wind was blowing back the waves (see extras).

We had a look round the remains of the 12th century chapel on the island and then walked back to the mainland, had a very nice lunch in the heritage centre in Hoswick and a quick browse of the shop there as well as a couple of other shops in the village.

We then headed back to our cottage via Lerwick to pick up something for our dinner tonight. After a cup of tea, mum and I went for a short walk from the cottage spotting, among other things, a meadow pipit and grey plover.
