‘Muffler’ High

I have walked by this piece of ‘graffiti’,many times a year, for as long as it has existed, and have never noticed it. Blip seems to have made me more observant. (K. might think otherwise.)

This is on a very old, very run down wooden building, whose days may be numbered.

Muffler High is the name of an alternate school class for students who struggle, for any number of reasons, in a regular school setting. Their programs are tailored to their individual needs. The sight is remote from the main school, yet nearby.

The Muffler name stems from the fact that their classroom is located above a muffler/car repair shop.

The muffler in the graffiti is carefully drawn and painted, and the names are of the students who successfully completed their courses and graduated from high school that year. It shows their pride in their accomplishment. That fact that it has lasted almost 20 years and has not been defaced or painted over, shows recognition by the public of their significant achievements.
