Recurring Dream

Nightmares are not unusual for me. Sometimes they repeat. Different variations - more melancholic, a heightened sense of fear, pressing urgency, disorientation. What is more rare is when they awake me with a creeping sense of poison, like a strange pulse of pain that passes across my body as it reaches consciousness. A residual paralysis that feels like being stung.

This recurring dream, the one about the cave system under the house (the hut) that blazed, woke me in this way today. There is a sense of some historic wrong-doing, the ransacking of sacred ground maybe. A murky threat, unknowable. A dark, narrow hole being uncovered and a palpable sense that something has or will be released.
