Belém

Belém (pronounced ber-layng) is where Vasco da Gama set sail from for India in 1497. In 2023 it was crowded with tourists, including yours truly. We decided not to go inside, but strolled leisurely to a nearby hotel for drinks while gazing out onto the Tagus river. Some rowers were out, we saw about 5 boats of fours plus a cox - and they were terrible! It was really entertaining. I think the cox(es?) must have just been out for a lark because none of them seemed to be marking time at all.
