Bologna

This morning, we left Lucca and  travelled by train to Bologna via Florence.  The second part of the journey was by the very fast and comfortable Frecciarossa train. We are staying in an apartment very near the central station.  This afternoon, we explored the old town, first by walking down the colonnaded Via Indipendenzia, which is the main shopping street full of luxury clothes, jewellery and shoe shops. I wasn't allowed much time to window shop let alone venture into any of them! When we found the Piazza Maggiore we decided to climb the clock tower (Torre dell'Orologio or Accursi Tower)for good views of the city. My extra shows the view including Neptune's fountain and some of the many towers to be found in Bologna. Then we wandered into the Quadrilatero area to see the fresh fruit and fish stalls, as well as the enormous hams and parmigiano reggiano cheeses for sale. Then we just had to have an Aperol Spritz- see my blip of Martin enjoying his drink, before we walked back to the apartment.  We found a delightful homely restaurant for dinner near to the apartment and out of the old city. We had the most delicious grillled swordfish and whole  bream followed by pannacotta. Such a lucky find.
