From Little Mell Fell

Two more Wainwright‘a today, the diminutive Great and Little Mell Fells. Nothing diminutive about the views from their summits. Extensive vistas in all directions.

Little Mell fell is only a half hour round trip. And Great Mell around an hour and a half with most people driving between the two. We decided to walk between the two fells which was very enjoyable except for the last uphill mile back to the Hause and the parked car.

The trees on Great Mell were fascinating. Higher up stunted, lower down larger, most covered with large amounts of different sorts of mosses and lichens. There were many skeletal trees bleached silver by the winds and sun.

We’re expecting Storm Agnes tomorrow, heavy rain and strong winds. No fells tomorrow. Instead we’ll probably go to Grasmere and call in at Dove House. Coffee may be had at some time. And we’ll fit in a low level walk around Grasmere and Rydal Water.

Thank you for your lovely comments so far this week. Pleased you’re enjoying the views.
