Labyrinth mosaic

We visited Paphos today, and in between lunch and ice cream time, wandered around the archaeological site. It was hot and barren, but with amazing mosaics and various ruins. I liked this mosaic of a labyrinth, dating from the 3rd to 4th century. The centre shows the mythical duel between Theseus and the Minotaur in the labyrinth in Crete, and the old man just visible is a personification of the labyrinth. It's interesting that labyrinths have subsequently been adapted for Christian devotion.
