Hard labour

Had a lovely day at Quarry Bank Mill, a National Trust property in Styal, Cheshire. We had a picnic in the grounds and the weather was glorious. The Mill was fascinating and it was possible to see many of the machines in action. Even one machine was incredibly noisy so the sound of a whole roomful must have been overwhelming to a new mill worker. No wonder most of them went deaf.
