Autumn Leaves

Today's the day .......................... to change colour

The trees in the garden are at their most colourful just now - with every shade from green through the yellows and oranges to dark red.

The young tree in the middle is Parrotia persica  or the Persian ironwood as it is commonly known.  It is native to northern Iran - and is closely related to the witch-hazel genus Hamamelis.  Behind it is a maple and behind that, one of Will's oak trees.  And on the right is the glorious Berberis - such a useful shrub to have in the garden at any time - but specially colourful now, with its dark burgundy red leaves and scarlet berries.

Autumn has arrived with a flourish .......................
