A moment in time

Macmillan Cancer Support

A long number of years ago, Patricia and Jim organised a Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning in their house.  It was a huge success, and they worked very hard to make it really special.  Cancer Care is something I support, and I have helped set it up, and volunteered for a long time now.

A few years ago Patricia herself was sick, and it was decided to move the coffee morning to our church, which meant that our whole team could include a lot of church people also, but it was still in Patricia and Jim's name and we transported all the beautiful china and cake stands from their house to the church, to make it just as special.  The large hall of our church was used and it was a huge success.

This year for the first time we opted to hold it in our Sanctuary,, which can hold larger numbers.  We had more volunteers than we really needed, but everyone helped in whatever way they could.  And the numbers kept pouring through the doors.

Our local high school pupils also helped as they have done for the past few years and they are a real credit to their school and to our area.

I was selling raffle tickets, and people were amazing, some people were spending £20 on raffles in one go.  I think everyone relates to Macmillan Cancer Care as we have all been touched by the disease at some time in our lives.

Jim held an Auction, with everything donated, and we had lots of spirits of all kinds, hairdressing vouchers, restaurant vouchers, perfume, you name it, we had it!

It was a terrific morning and I enjoyed being with friends after I did my stint of selling.  I think we will have raised a lot of money for this very worthy cause.

....... and believe it or not, I won a raffle prize!!!!
