Up in the air

Our flight to Las Palmas was scheduled for 3. pm, but was delayed by forty minutes. We’s checked in at Terminal 2 in Dublin airport but or departure gate was in what can only be described as a pre-fab shed outside the main building, a long, convoluted way from the main terminal building. We’d experienced this hugely unsatisfactory arrangement for our flight to the Algarve earlier in the year also. We spoke to an airport guy out on the tarmac before we ended up in ‘three shed and he said it was because the main departure area in Terminal 2 is now devoted exclusively to flights to North America and he told us we should expect to see more of these pre-fab areas appearing in the future. It’s all very unsatisfactory, especially since facilities in the boarding are we ended up in are severely limited, with only a tiny concession which offers tea and coffee, with beer and soft drinks reduced to a self-service open-fronted fridge. Very poor show, DAA (Dublin Airport Authority).

The actual flight was fine, the four and a half hours eased by viewing and hugely enjoying a few episodes of Wellmania on Netflix. Our pre-booked taxi transfer in at Las Palmas airport whisked us in style to Playa del Inglés and our friends’ bungalow that we’ve been lucky enough to have their use of several times since 2014.

Soon after settling in we made ur way to the Yumbo Centre for a nice meal in Mirimar restaurant. It’s become something of a tradition to eat there on our first night when we’re in Gran Canaria and we’d recommend it to anyone.
