Guiding At Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse

After the winds and rain of the last two days, Hill of Tarvit is looking well.

The number of visitors is low today, however, some of the volunteers did suffer some verbal abuse from two visitors who were adamant that the Mansionhouse is not ‘Arts and Crafts’.

Of course, this is complete news to the guides and to the managers. Of course it is Arts and Crafts. Arts and Crafts covers the period of 1880 to 1920 and covered many countries.

Green & Green in California were Arts and Crafts Architects, as was Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Robert Lorimer was also an Arts and Crafts Architect. CFA Voysey was one as well. 

I did come across these two disappointed visitors. I was leaving the Billiard Room to take up my position at the library. I remarked that another guide will be in the Billiard Room in a few minutes and she would introduce the room to them.

‘We do not need any introductions or explanations!’  They missed the opportunity to learn more about Arts and Crafts Architecture. 

Today is the 29th September. I have added an extra which shows some articles from the Daily Telegraph of 29th September 1948 which was on display in the library today,
