Life in Newburgh on Ythan

BBQ anyone?

The recent high tides and storms have uncovered an old shell midden in a sand dune. The shells are mainly from mussels and were collected and cooked by our ancestors long ago. A similar midden of shells excavated on the other side of the river a few years back was carbon dated back to Pictish times. That midden had clear evidence of the mussels being cooked on a wood fire.
