Noticing

The Alexandra Cinema in Newton Abbot is a grade II listed building, erected in 1871, and built as a corn exchange. This became the Alexandra Hall in 1874, and was subsequently used for all sorts of entertainments, dinners, meetings, exhibitions, and auctions until it became a theatre with a screen, then a cinema with a stage.

It was a dull misty morning but we had something to do - notice Newton Abbot, with Tess Walker, who has written a beautifully illustrated book with the title Noticing Newton Abbot. Tess gave us a two hour guided tour round the town, looking at some of its 160 listed buildings, of which the cinema is one.
The trick is to notice things - to look up at buildings, and see the detail. With an artist’s eye.

Some people are good at noticing, some don’t see anything. Blippers are good at noticing things, and it is an excellent habit. Happy noticing.
