Dunas de Maspalomas

Another tradition when we’re here is to go to the bottom of Avenida de Tirajana and stop off at the Riu Palace Hotel. Just walk straight through off the street and you come to a fine paved area with a wonderful view of the Dunes, one of Playa del Inglés’s principal tourist stops. It was a bit disappointing today, with plastic barriers scattered around and access to the dunes roped off. It’s still a spectacular sight, though.

We ate in an Italian restaurant tonight. I only felt like a bowl of soup but no soup was on offer. Carl had a surprisingly expensive ‘special’ pizza and I settled for a fruit salad. Prices in Playa are generally far lower than at home, but tonight’s restaurant bucked that trend. It was okay, but definitely;y not great and also definitely not worth what they charged. It gave a general impression of having only recently opened. Service was slow and the general impression was rather casual and slip-shod.

Earlier, we’d sent birthday greetings to a friend from home only to find that he is also here in Playa. We made noises about meeting for a birthday drink but they ate earlier than we did and we were on our way home when we bumped into them. We hope to meet up with them on Saturday.
