Cycling on new roads

Of course, today's blip means nothing to anyone. It is an information panel and in the distance a cyclist. The cyclist is Bert who cycled there at my request so that I could create a more or less interesting photo.

We cycled into Belgium to investigate whether it would be enjoyable to cycle on a few straight national roads that we were not yet familiar with. We now know that they are boring and will not choose them anytime soon.
There are only three bridges from Belgium over the Albert Canal to Maastricht. There are only 5 bridges over the Maas river to continue cycling to our village. So we always return to the same routes. We left Maastricht via the southernmost bridge and entered via the northern bridge. From the northern bridge over the canal to the southern bridge over the river we cycled on a brand new cycle path where this information panel was located. The panel tells about the archaeological site of a fortress that probably dates from the reign of Charlemagne's grandfather, better known as Charles Martel.
An era when there was no Albert Canal and only 1 wooden bridge over the Maas.
