LEED

A LEED pattern of the surface of a single crystal of copper. Single crystal means that the atoms are arranged in a regular pattern throughout the whole material, a requirement for many solid state phenomena on the nanoscale. LEED = Low Energy Electron Diffraction, a technique to measure the surface structure of a crystal. A high quality surface will give a regular array of light spots, so this surface requires a bit more treatment.
