This is the harbour wall at Celardyke. Some of you may know Cellardyke as the bird flu capital of the UK, but it is where I grew up. My friends and I often used to swim in the harbour where the bird was found, so it was very surreal seeing it all over the news.
The harbour was built here in the 1500s and was once home to over 200 fishing boats. A storm in 1898 damaged the harbour and destroyed many boats. This resulted in most of the fleet moving to Anstruther harbour, which was newly built. This meant that Anstruther grew rapidly in size, while Cellardyke remained very small, and is now pretty much just an extension of Anstruther. But, don't say that to my Granny! To native 'dykers such talk is heresy and would probably be met with a slap!
