Pictorial blethers

By blethers

Early one morning ...

...we were wakened by the sun at 6am and went for a walk. And as I look out at the rain this afternoon, at 4pm, I'm glad of the madness that had us exploring Killarney in the birdsong-filled sunlight. This is St Mary's Cathedral (1842-1855), designed by the renowned English Architect Augustus Welby Pugin and considered to be one of the most important and best Gothic Revival churches. It's huge.

At that hour it wasn't open, but a wee lady out for an early walk told us we must return during the day to see inside. She told us of how the bishop was retiring and would be living just over the road, and when we parted she wished us a good holiday and blessed us.

We did return, and I have pics of the interior but they are even more squint than this one and right now I lack the wherewithal to straighten them. It's worth seeing, with its soaring, unplastered stone arches and tall Gothic windows. The pics will appear on flickr some day ....
