The Lozarithm Lens

Calne Town Gardens (Wednesday 11th October 2023)

A drizzly morning brightened up by lunchtime and as I'd bought a Meal Deal the previous day I sauntered over to the Town Gardens to have it (it doesn't count as groceries for my monthly budget if not eaten at home). It was very autumnal with fallen leaves, rotting windfalls on the grass and several kinds of fungi in evidence, including this one.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Nairobi Sisters - Promised land (1974)
The Nairobi Sisters were singers Judy Mowatt (from the I-Threes) and Sister Terrie Nairobi, and Promised Land was first recorded with the band The Gaytones, under license to the Gay Feet label, probably produced by Sonia Pottinger, though the later re-release on Winston Jones' Flames Records credits Jones as producer, writer and arranger. The track and its dub version came to define the Brooklyn reggae scene, hence a repro being released in 2023, just now, via 333 Records. The dub side of the Flames version differs from the original Gay Feet dub. In the meantime the track has been sampled by Smooth Movement (1991), Kurious (1994) and notably by Q-Tips and A Tribe Called Quest on Whateva Will Be in 2016.
