"A heavenly evening"

So, as part of our weekend away we took the old style train into Llangollen and visited Plas Newydd. It's somewhere that Mrs BH and I have wanted to visit for years, as had our co-holiday-makers. And it was great. It's a far more decorated house that I had imagined - loads of elaborate carvings and wood work, usually pieces that had been donated.

This plaque was just attached to one of the garden fences. It's a direct quote from the diary of Lady Eleanor Butler, on of the famed Ladies of Llangollen who, having eloped from Ireland in the 1770s lived for just shy of 50 years at Plas Newydd, developing a thriving salon for eminent visitors and travellers.

Not sure that I'd consider planting a hundred carnations as a heavenly evening, but the impact of a hundred carnations must have been spectacular!
